Sally Tran is a writer and director living in New York by the way of New Zealand and Viet Nam, she has directed Television, Film and Commercials. Her New Zealand film career saw her direct three short films, and one feature film funded through the New Zealand Film Commission, and Creative New Zealand 2008- 2016. TRA THU is a script in development with NZFC seed funding.
Sally’s list of residencies and scholarships have been awarded from Massey University 2011, writer in residence, Asia New Zealand Foundation 2013, film development, Script to Screen fellowship to NYC’s Killer Films 2013, and the Berlinale Talents, Berlin 2013.
In 2014 she co-directed eight episodes of a television show in Vietnam Called ALOOH GAMES. Her short film, EAT YOUR CAKE; I’M A VIETNAMESE REFUGEE has been invited into festivals and screened at refugee events across the world. Sally screened her feature film, TIMESLOW, THE TIMELESS TALES OF HENRY GLINT, as an interactive event in 2017 in NYC.
Moving to New York in 2015, she signed to the production company, Ghost Robot, and has worked with brands and networks such as Sesame Street, Cartoon Network, ASUS, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to create short form narrative work.
Sally has a background in fashion and on the side, she works on her fashion line Sonny Tann, launched in Summer 2018.
